Police Arrest Activist Henry Nwodo: What This Means for Civic Freedom

Henry Nwodo, a member of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement, was arrested on Sunday night in Abuja ahead of a planned protest against police extortion and unlawful roadblocks. He was apprehended by armed police officers at the Ruga-Fulani village in the Jahi 2 area.

Following his arrest, Nwodo was charged with “impersonation of a human rights activist” and “resisting arrest.” His lawyer, R.E. Hamza, confirmed the charges, noting that the police claimed Nwodo was impersonating human rights activism, not a specific individual.

The TIB Movement had organized the protest to address issues of police extortion and unlawful roadblocks, aiming to bring attention to these concerns at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

As of now, Nwodo remains in custody, and further developments are awaited.
