Abia Rep’s Surprising Claim: ‘We’re Friends Now’ with Assaulted Bolt Driver
In October 2024, a video surfaced showing Alex Ikwechegh, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, assaulting an e-hailing driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, during a package delivery in Abuja. The incident sparked widespread outrage, leading to legal actions and public scrutiny.
Subsequently, Abuwatseya issued a public apology to Ikwechegh, expressing regret for his actions and seeking forgiveness. This apology led to the withdrawal of legal representation by some lawyers who had initially taken up his case.
In January 2025, Ikwechegh reflected on the incident, describing it as a “low moment” and stating that he and Abuwatseya have since become friends. He emphasized that the altercation was an isolated event and does not define his character.
