Obasa Under Scrutiny: Lagos Assembly Probes Former Speaker Over Corruption Claims
The Lagos State House of Assembly has announced plans to investigate former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of fraud and financial misappropriation.
This follows his impeachment on January 13, 2025, by a majority of the 40-member Assembly, citing misconduct and abuse of office.
Obasa, who served as Speaker from June 2015 until his removal, has publicly denied the allegations, describing his impeachment as unprocedural and asserting his innocence regarding the corruption claims.
The Assembly’s spokesperson, Olukayode Ogundipe, confirmed that the investigation would commence upon Obasa’s return to the House.
In the interim, Mojisola Meranda, who was elected as the new Speaker following Obasa’s impeachment, has pledged to uphold transparency and integrity in the Assembly’s proceedings.
