US Deported 4,094 Immigrants to Mexico: Key Insights from Presidential Statement
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico has received 4,094 migrants deported from the United States between January 20 and January 26, 2025. While the majority of these individuals are Mexican nationals, the group also includes people from other countries.
President Sheinbaum emphasized that this level of deportation is consistent with historical patterns and does not represent a significant increase since President Donald Trump assumed office. She stated, “Mexico has a very important history of repatriation with the United States.
First with the Trump administration and then with the Biden administration. There are coordination mechanisms.” She also highlighted the importance of respecting human rights during the repatriation process.
In a related development, the Colombian government has agreed to accept deportation flights from the U.S., following negotiations to avoid potential trade sanctions.
