Abduction of Abia Electoral Chief in Imo: What You Need to Know
On Friday, January 31, 2025, Professor George Chima, the Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), was abducted from his residence in Okigwe, Imo State. At the time of the incident, he was hosting lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu.
Four gunmen reportedly stormed his home, harassed his guests, and seized him.
The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and initiated an investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, personally led a team to Okigwe to pursue the kidnappers.
Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits and secure Professor Chima’s release.
