Desist from Inciting Violence: Matawalle’s Stern Warning to Amaechi
Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has issued a stern warning to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, cautioning him against making inflammatory statements that could incite violence. This follows Amaechi’s recent remarks at a conference in Abuja, where he suggested that Nigerian politicians “steal, maim, and kill” to remain in power.
Matawalle condemned these comments as reckless and dangerous, emphasizing that they insult the intelligence of Nigerians and risk radicalizing the youth, thereby destabilizing national peace and security. He stated, “It is both reckless and dangerous for a former public office holder to make such inflammatory remarks. At a time when the government is working tirelessly to consolidate national unity and security, no responsible leader should be fanning the flames of violence and political unrest.”
The Minister further warned that security agencies are on high alert and that any individual or group found inciting violence or attempting to destabilize the nation will face the full force of the law. He reminded Amaechi that power is earned through democratic means, not through intimidation, violence, or lawlessness. Matawalle reiterated the administration’s commitment to upholding peace, democratic values, and the security of all Nigerians.
This is not the first time Matawalle has cautioned Amaechi against making such statements. In October 2024, he similarly accused Amaechi of inciting violence and unrest among the Nigerian populace, urging him to stop weaponizing people’s pain for political gain.
