Former Osun Governor Bisi Akande Speaks: Ladoja Holds the Key to Bola Ige’s Murder
Former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, has recently suggested that former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, may possess information regarding the 2001 assassination of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige. Akande highlighted that the murder occurred in Oyo State, where Ladoja later served as governor. He noted that during Ladoja’s tenure, the case concerning Ige’s murder was withdrawn from court, implying that Ladoja might have insights into the case.
Akande emphasized that Ige’s assassination was politically motivated, stating, “He was killed in anticipation of what he might become in the future. It was a state murder. The government killed him. The government can kill anybody.” He also criticized the administration of then-President Olusegun Obasanjo for its lack of enthusiasm in investigating the murder, suggesting that Obasanjo was more concerned with maintaining his power than seeking justice for Ige.
Chief Bola Ige was fatally shot on December 23, 2001, at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State. Despite various arrests and trials, including that of former Osun State Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, all suspects were acquitted, and the case remains unresolved.
