Unresolved Salaries for Deceased Workers in Ebonyi
Chinedu Uburu, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Ebonyi State, has revealed that some local government workers who passed away as far back as 2009 are still receiving salaries. This discovery emerged during a recent verification exercise aimed at identifying ghost workers within the local government system.
Uburu expressed concern over the financial strain this issue places on local governments, especially in light of the recent minimum wage increase. He emphasized that with the current workforce numbers, it is challenging for councils to meet salary obligations.
He urged patience among workers awaiting their payments, noting that the verification exercise is intended to address these discrepancies and is not targeted at any individual.
