Final Year Student Murder: Seven Suspects Arraigned
On February 3, 2025, seven individuals were arraigned before the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, charged with the alleged murder of Mojisola Awesu, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.
Defendants:
- Happiness Adebayo: A final-year student at Summit University, Offa, and the principal suspect.
- Timileyin Kolawole: Alleged accomplice.
- Adebayo Adeniyi: Father of Happiness Adebayo.
- Bukola Adeniyi: Mother of Happiness Adebayo.
- Adeoye Adeola: Alleged accomplice.
- Lawal Aminat: Alleged accomplice.
- Peter Bulus: Alleged accomplice.
Charges:
- Criminal conspiracy.
- Culpable homicide.
- Disappearance and destruction of evidence.
- Dumping of a corpse.
These offenses are punishable under the Penal Code Law of Kwara State, 2006, and the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
Incident Details:
In August 2024, Mojisola was reportedly lured to Ilorin by Happiness Adebayo under the pretense of attending a joint sign-out party. She was subsequently murdered, and her body was disposed of at a dumpsite along Wara Road, Ilorin.
Court Proceedings:
The arraignment was postponed due to the absence of legal representation for the principal accused, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole. Justice Ibrahim Yusuf ordered their remand in a correctional facility and adjourned the case to February 24, 2025, to ensure proper legal representation.
This case has garnered significant public attention, highlighting concerns about student safety and the judicial process in handling such serious offenses.
