Former President Buhari Reflects on Nigeria’s Growth

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has claimed that Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly during his administration. Speaking in a recent statement, Buhari highlighted the strides made in tackling insecurity, particularly through military and counter-terrorism operations, as well as reforms in economic policies aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economic standing.

Buhari pointed to the successful fight against insurgency, particularly in the northeast, and the efforts to combat banditry and kidnappings as significant achievements in improving security across the country. On the economic front, he cited the growth of Nigeria’s agricultural sector, the implementation of various infrastructure projects, and efforts to diversify the economy away from oil dependence as key markers of progress.

However, Buhari’s claims have been met with mixed reactions. While some supporters agree that his administration made strides in certain areas, critics argue that insecurity reached new heights under his watch, with terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry still rampant in many regions. Similarly, despite efforts to diversify the economy, Nigeria still faces significant challenges, including rising unemployment, inflation, and foreign debt.

Buhari’s statement is likely an attempt to bolster his legacy after stepping down, but it’s also indicative of the ongoing debates about his time in office.
