Emergency Landing Mishap: Plane Strikes Bus in Sao Paulo
On the morning of February 7, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in São Paulo, Brazil, when a small Beech F90 King Air aircraft crashed into a bus on Marquês de São Vicente Avenue during an attempted emergency landing. The crash resulted in the deaths of both individuals on board the plane and injuries to several others on the ground.
The aircraft had departed from Campo de Marte Airport at approximately 7:15 AM local time, destined for Porto Alegre. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported an emergency, and the plane lost contact with air traffic control around 7:17 AM. Eyewitnesses described the plane hitting a tree before colliding with the bus, leading to a significant explosion and a plume of black smoke.
Emergency responders, including the São Paulo Fire Department, promptly arrived at the scene. They discovered the charred bodies of the pilot, Gustavo Medeiros, and the aircraft’s owner, Márcio Carpena, inside the fuselage. On the ground, a motorcyclist and a bus passenger were among those injured by debris from the crash. In total, six individuals were rescued and received medical attention, with injuries ranging from minor to severe.
The Brazilian Air Force has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports indicate that the pilot attempted an emergency landing due to unspecified technical issues shortly after takeoff. The airspace above the crash site has been temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation.
