Defamatory Remarks Lead to Seaking’s Arrest
Nigerian TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, known online as “Seaking,” was re-arrested on February 6, 2025, in Lagos. This arrest occurred within the premises of a magistrate’s court, where he was attending a hearing related to previous charges. Following his detention, Seaking was transferred to Abuja.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, along with lawyers Deji Adeyanju and Marshal D.F. Abubakar, visited the Federal Investigation Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force to inquire about Seaking’s situation. They were informed that his arrest stemmed from allegations of cyberbullying against Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). The police cited a petition submitted by Paul James Adama on behalf of Pastor Adeboye.
Sowore expressed his dismay, questioning how a TikTok video could be perceived as bullying or threatening to a prominent religious leader like Pastor Adeboye. He criticized the actions of the Nigerian Police Force, describing the situation as “disheartening, disgusting, and frightening.”
This incident follows Seaking’s initial arrest in December 2024, when he was accused of cyberstalking, treason, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace after posting videos critical of President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He was granted bail in that case.
