Clarity in Probing Government: Insights from El-Rufai’s Son
Mohammed El-Rufai, the eldest son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his support for the Kaduna State Government’s decision to investigate his father’s administration. In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Mohammed emphasized that such probes should be conducted with clear and unbiased intentions, focusing on uncovering facts rather than settling personal scores. He stated, “It is not a bad thing to investigate. But it should be done with clear intention and not to humiliate anyone or because someone has offended you.”
Mohammed, who currently represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, underscored the importance of transparency and fairness in governmental investigations. He cautioned against using such inquiries as political tools, noting that if conducted for selfish reasons, they could hinder progress.
This perspective comes amid reports of a rift between former Governor El-Rufai and his successor, Governor Uba Sani. Mohammed acknowledged the discord but emphasized his desire for peace, stating, “It is unsettling. I wouldn’t love to see my enemies picking a fight with each other. I love peace.”
In a related development, there have been past instances where Mohammed was reported to have sent messages perceived as threatening to the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, concerning probes into his father’s tenure. However, in his recent statements, Mohammed advocates for objective and fair investigations, aligning with principles of accountability and good governance.
