Minister: Iran Willing to Discuss with US on Own Terms
Iran has expressed its readiness to engage in negotiations with the United States, provided that these discussions occur without the imposition of the U.S.’s “maximum pressure” strategy. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that while Iran is open to dialogue aimed at lifting sanctions, it will not participate in talks that resemble a form of surrender under coercive policies.
This stance aligns with recent remarks by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who stated that past experiences have shown that negotiations with the U.S. are neither wise nor honorable. He criticized the U.S. for not honoring previous agreements, highlighting that even when Iran made concessions, the U.S. failed to uphold its commitments.
These developments come in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed call for a “verified nuclear peace agreement” with Iran. Trump had previously withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal and reinstated stringent sanctions, significantly impacting Iran’s economy. Iran has since breached certain constraints of the agreement in reaction to the U.S. withdrawal
