NNPCL Addresses Rumors of Explosion at Warri Facility
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially refuted claims of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC).
In a statement released on February 7, 2025, NNPCL clarified that operations at WRPC’s Area 1 were deliberately reduced on January 25, 2025, to perform essential maintenance on specific equipment, including field instruments affecting consistent operations. This proactive measure was taken to ensure the production of on-specification finished and intermediate products, particularly Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and kerosene.
NNPCL emphasized that the maintenance activities are progressing as planned, with an expected resumption of full operations in Area 1 within the next few days. Despite the ongoing maintenance, the refinery has maintained an average loading of eight trucks per day of AGO over the past 11 days, ensuring a sufficient supply to support continuous truck load-out operations.
The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring an uninterrupted product supply and expressed appreciation for the patience and cooperation of all stakeholders during these essential maintenance activities.
