Indian Police Intervenes During Ed Sheeran’s Concert
On February 8, 2025, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran held an impromptu street performance on Church Street in Bengaluru, India. During his rendition of “Shape of You,” local police intervened, unplugging his equipment and halting the performance. Sheeran informed the gathered crowd that his team had secured the necessary permissions, stating, “We have the permission to be here, but this policeman is shutting it down.”
The incident was captured on video and has since circulated widely on social media. Reports indicate that the police were unaware of Sheeran’s identity and were enforcing local regulations concerning public performances. The authorities contended that the performance lacked the required permits, leading to their intervention.
Sheeran is currently on the India leg of his Mathematics Tour, with scheduled performances in cities including Bengaluru, Shillong, and Delhi-NCR.
