Tragic Incident: Trader Killed by Truck in Ondo
A tragic accident occurred on February 8, 2025, at Opa Junction near Olokuta Village along Ondo Road in Akure, Ondo State, resulting in the death of a well-known furniture trader, popularly known as “Daddy Ese.” The incident happened when a speeding truck collided with a commercial motorcycle on which the deceased was a passenger. The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended after a pursuit by other road users and military personnel. The tragic event has led to calls from local leaders for infrastructural improvements. Mr. Monday Desmond, Chairman of the Commercial Motorcyclists Association at Adebowale Junction, urged the government to consider widening the road, citing its narrowness as a contributing factor to frequent accidents in the area.
In response to the incident, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), advised motorists to exercise caution, especially on narrow roads. He emphasized that those found violating traffic regulations would face strict legal consequences.
