New Regulations: Policemen in Mufti Barred from Guns
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has issued a directive prohibiting police officers from carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti). He emphasized that all tactical squads must adhere to standard operating procedures and be properly attired in their designated uniforms. This move aims to uphold human rights and maintain professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP also warned against serious breaches of human rights, stating that any violations will not be tolerated and will be met with severe consequences. He highlighted the importance of operating in approved uniforms and cautioned against the misuse of power and improper dressing.
Additionally, the IGP addressed the issue of indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval, describing such conduct as highly prohibited and cautioning that it would no longer be tolerated. He urged all ranks within the force to work collaboratively to prevent any irresponsible acts that could tarnish the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
