Investigation Launched After Teen Dies in Store Oven
In October 2024, 19-year-old Gursimran Kaur, a Walmart employee in Halifax, Canada, was tragically found deceased inside the store’s walk-in bakery oven. Initial reports indicated that her mother, who also worked at the same Walmart, discovered her daughter’s body after she went missing during her shift.
Emergency dispatch audio revealed that first responders were informed of a female employee “locked in an oven in the bakery, oven is on,” upon their arrival.
Following a comprehensive investigation, the Halifax Regional Police concluded that there was no evidence of foul play in Kaur’s death. The exact circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.
In response to the tragedy, Walmart temporarily closed the Halifax store for renovations, which included the removal of all walk-in ovens. A GoFundMe campaign organized by the Maritime Sikh Society raised over $140,000 to support Kaur’s family and assist in reuniting her father and brother from India.
