First Nigerian-Born Soldier to Command U.S. Infantry
Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Eragbai E. Evborokhai has made history as the first Nigerian-born soldier to lead a U.S. Army infantry regiment. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2001 from Baltimore, Maryland, he completed Infantry One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Throughout his distinguished career, CSM Evborokhai has held various positions, including Rifleman, Fire Team Leader, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, and Operations Sergeant Major. His assignments have taken him to units such as the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and the 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment in Baumholder, Germany. Notably, he served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment “Manchu” at Fort Carson, Colorado.
In his role as Command Sergeant Major, Evborokhai functioned as the senior enlisted advisor to the commanding officer, addressing issues pertinent to all soldiers within the regiment. His leadership and dedication have been widely recognized, marking a significant milestone for Nigerian-born personnel in the U.S. military.
