Lagos Man Awaits Judgment for Wife and Brother’s Murder
A Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square has reserved judgment until February 27, 2025, in the case of 50-year-old Benjamin Ogudoro, who is accused of murdering his wife, Chinyere, and her brother, Ifeanyi Edeziem. The judgment, initially scheduled for February 13, was postponed because it was not ready.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April 1, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m., at House 5, Zone 7, Oteyi Garden Estate, Abule Ado, in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos. It is alleged that Mr. Ogudoro poured petrol on his wife and brother-in-law while they were asleep and set them ablaze, resulting in their deaths.
Mr. Ogudoro was arraigned on December 7, 2022, on a four-count charge bordering on murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The alleged offenses violate Sections 223 and 341 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
A prosecution witness and sibling to the deceased, Uche Uwalaka, testified in court about the unbearable pain caused by the deaths, noting that the tragedy also led to the death of their mother.
The court is expected to deliver its judgment on February 27, 2025.
