Joint Security Measures Against ISWAP Threats
In response to emerging security threats from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), governors of Nigeria’s South-West region have resolved to establish a Joint Surveillance Monitoring Team to oversee and coordinate security efforts across the region. This decision was made during a meeting of the South-West Governors’ Forum held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The governors emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and local security outfits, urging them to remain vigilant. They also committed to deploying advanced technology, including aerial surveillance systems, to enhance security operations. Additionally, the Forum resolved that Special Advisers on Security from each state will collaborate on intelligence gathering and sharing among state security agencies, local security networks, and federal law enforcement authorities within the South-West states.
