Dance Video Dispute Leads to Student Expulsion at Unizik

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious, following an incident where she assaulted a lecturer who interrupted her dance video recording.

The altercation occurred when Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, requested that Precious move aside as she was filming a dance video in a campus corridor. The situation escalated, leading to Precious physically attacking Dr. Okoye, including biting him on both arms.

The university’s decision to expel Precious was based on the findings of the Student Disciplinary Committee, which deemed her actions a gross misconduct and a violation of the institution’s regulations. An official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Acting Registrar Victor I. Modebelu, stated that the expulsion takes immediate effect. Precious has been instructed to vacate the university premises and return any university property in her possession.

This incident has garnered significant attention, with videos of the confrontation circulating widely on social media platforms.
