Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya, known for his content that promotes African unity and showcases the continent’s diverse cultures, was recently honored with a street named after him in Lagos, Nigeria. This gesture reflects the profound impact of his work in reshaping narratives about Africa and fostering cross-cultural connections.
In 2021, during a visit to Richmond Gate Estate in Lagos, Wode Maya humorously expressed a desire to have a street named after him, inspired by the estate’s streets bearing names of notable figures. This lighthearted remark resonated with the community, leading to the eventual naming of a street in his honor.
The official unveiling of “Wode Maya Street” took place on January 27, 2025, with fellow Nigerian YouTuber Steven Ndukwu in attendance. Wode Maya expressed his gratitude, stating, “What a great honour to have my name on a street in Lagos, Nigeria.”
