TCN Denies Allegations of Future Grid Failure
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted claims of national grid collapses in 2025, labeling such reports as “mischievous and misleading.” In an official statement released on Saturday, February 15, 2025, TCN clarified that no system collapse has occurred this year.
The company acknowledged an incident on February 12, 2025, where the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line tripped while the Benin-Egbin 330kV line was undergoing scheduled maintenance. This event led to a temporary outage affecting the Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo areas, but the rest of the national grid remained stable.
Power supply to the impacted regions has since been fully restored. TCN emphasized that information regarding the national grid should only be sourced from authorized channels to prevent the dissemination of false reports.
