Arrest Made in Abia Traditional Ruler’s Murder Case
Security operatives have arrested Emeka Ogbu, the prime suspect in the assassination of HRH Eze Eric Ihevueme, the traditional ruler of Eziama Nunya Autonomous Community in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State. Ogbu, a native of the same community, was apprehended in Ezinachi, Okigwe, Imo State, after months on the run. Authorities had been tracking his movements following the July 2024 killing that left the town in shock and mourning. HRH Eze Ihevueme was reportedly ambushed by unknown assailants around 9 PM in his hometown, in what has been described as an unprecedented act of violence in Isuikwuato.
His murder triggered an intense manhunt led by security agencies and community leaders determined to bring the culprits to justice. Sources suggest that the monarch’s death may be linked to a land ownership dispute. Allegations indicate that Ogbu had been laying claim to a piece of land he insisted belonged to his late father.
Despite not being the eldest son, he reportedly sought to reclaim the property, a situation that escalated tensions within the community. Security forces are continuing their investigations to determine if additional suspects were involved in the assassination. Meanwhile, community elders have urged calm, assuring residents that justice will be served.
