Allegations of Blackmail: Tunde Ayeni Responds
Nigerian businessman Dr. Tunde Ayeni has publicly refuted claims regarding the paternity of a child with Abuja-based lawyer Ms. Adaobi Alagwu. The dispute intensified following the release of a DNA test result by Ms. Alagwu, which purportedly indicates Dr. Ayeni as the child’s biological father.
In a press statement dated February 16, 2025, Dr. Ayeni described the DNA certificate as “compromised and unreliable,” alleging irregularities in the testing process. He noted that the result was initially expected within five days, but a subsequent letter, allegedly from the testing center, extended the date by two days. Upon direct inquiry, the center reportedly denied knowledge of the letter and the individual who signed it, raising concerns about the document’s authenticity.
Dr. Ayeni further claimed that unauthorized access to email accounts linked to the accredited laboratory might have compromised the testing process. He stated that when he sought a new test from a different facility, Ms. Alagwu declined. The matter is currently before the court, with Dr. Ayeni expressing confidence in the legal system to resolve the issue based on the evidence presented.
This development follows a series of public disputes between the two parties. Ms. Alagwu has consistently maintained that the DNA certificate is valid and supports her claims. In contrast, Dr. Ayeni has previously obtained a separate DNA test result, which he asserts conclusively proves he is not the child’s father. He has accused Ms. Alagwu of orchestrating a campaign of blackmail and defamation against him.
