Atletico Madrid Targets Wilfred Ndidi for Summer Transfer

Super Eagles Star Wilfred Ndidi on Atletico Madrid’s Radar

Atletico Madrid have expressed renewed interest in Leicester City’s midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, targeting a potential transfer in the upcoming summer window. The Spanish club had previously shown interest during the January transfer period, but Leicester City opted to retain Ndidi to aid in their Premier League survival efforts.

Ndidi, 28, has been a pivotal figure for Leicester since his arrival from KRC Genk in January 2017. Despite a hamstring injury sidelining him for part of the current season, he has made 16 league appearances, contributing four assists. His performances have also attracted attention from other European clubs, including Real Betis and AS Monaco. Notably, AS Monaco reportedly submitted a loan offer with an obligation to buy for £18 million, plus potential add-ons, which Leicester declined due to their valuation of Ndidi’s experience and importance to the squad.

With two years remaining on his contract, the upcoming summer transfer window presents a strategic opportunity for Leicester to negotiate a favorable deal should they decide to part ways with the Nigerian international. Atletico Madrid’s pursuit indicates their intent to bolster their midfield options, and Ndidi’s defensive prowess aligns with their tactical objectives.

As the season progresses, Ndidi’s contributions will be crucial for Leicester City, especially with upcoming fixtures against Brentford FC on February 21, 2025, and West Ham United on February 27, 2025. His performance in these matches could further influence transfer discussions and his market valuation.
