Clarification on Women's Arrests: Soludo's Government Speaks

Government Denies Authorizing Arrests for Underwear Issues

The Anambra State Government has refuted claims that it authorized the arrest of women not wearing bras or panties in public. This clarification comes in response to a viral video featuring a town crier in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, announcing that women without undergarments would be apprehended—a directive falsely attributed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

In an official statement, Christian Aburime, the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, labeled the information as “false and malicious,” emphasizing that the government does not interfere with citizens’ personal attire choices. He stated, “Such trivial matters cannot be the focus of the state government.”

The government urged the public to disregard the misleading announcement and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding fundamental human rights and dignity. It also highlighted its focus on critical issues such as security, human capital development, and economic transformation, rather than personal clothing choices.
