DHQ’s Statement on Visa Denial for Invictus Games Attendees
The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has addressed concerns regarding visa denials affecting Nigerian participants in the Invictus Games held in Vancouver, Canada. According to Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defense Information, the Nigerian contingent comprised three officers, 21 athletes, and a physiotherapist. However, only 14 athletes received visas, while seven athletes, the team leader, captain, and physiotherapist were denied entry.
Despite these challenges, the Nigerian team delivered an outstanding performance, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals, thereby highlighting the nation’s resilience on the global stage. Brigadier General Gusau emphasized that the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, has been instrumental in initiatives aimed at boosting the morale and welfare of service personnel. One such initiative is the establishment of the Invictus Foundation Centre, the first of its kind in Africa, currently under construction to provide care for wounded personnel.
