A young Nigerian woman, known on social media as @bidemi_akins, has commemorated the first anniversary of her survival following a battle with cancer that led to the amputation of her left leg. On February 16, 2025, she shared a heartfelt message reflecting on the life-altering surgery she underwent exactly one year prior. In her post, she expressed gratitude for her resilience and faith, stating, “One year ago today, I lost my leg to cancer. The enemy’s plan was not just for me to lose my leg, but for me to be buried. But today, I stand as proof that God is not done with me, that His mercy speaks louder than any verdict of the enemy. Thank you, Lord Jesus.”
Her inspiring journey has garnered widespread attention, with many praising her strength and determination. This story highlights the resilience of individuals facing significant health challenges and serves as a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity.
In a similar vein, Adenike Oyetunde, a Nigerian media personality and author, underwent a right leg amputation at the age of 20 due to bone cancer. She has since become an advocate for amputees and persons living with disabilities, founding the Amputees United Initiative and serving as the Senior Special Assistant on Persons Living with Disabilities in Lagos State.
