A New Path: Rehabilitation of 789 Former Terrorists
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has announced that approximately 789 former terrorist combatants are currently participating in the De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) programme under Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC).
This initiative was established in response to the mass surrender of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) members, resulting from coordinated operations by various stakeholders. Since its inception, over 120,000 insurgents and their families have laid down arms.
The 789 ex-combatants are slated to complete the programme within this year. A recent stakeholders’ meeting focused on developing strategies for the seamless reintegration of the first batch of 391 participants into their respective communities.
General Musa emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among state governments, local authorities, and security agencies to monitor and support the reintegrated individuals effectively.
