Tragic Incident: Beheading in Ebonyi Community
On Monday, February 17, 2025, in Akparata village, Effium autonomous community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, a man named Godwin Odah was brutally killed and beheaded by suspected warlords. This tragic event occurred just a week after Governor Francis Nwifuru granted amnesty to 158 detainees arrested during the four-year intra-communal conflict that began in Effium in 2021.
The President-General of Effium Town Union, Dr. Agena James, confirmed the incident and has urged for the prompt arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
Despite efforts by the state government to restore peace in the community, including the recent amnesty and stakeholders signing an undertaking to prevent further violence, this incident underscores the persistent security challenges in the region.
The Ebonyi State Police Command, through its spokesperson, ASP Joshua Ukandu, stated that they were not aware of the attack at the time. However, local community leaders have called for immediate action to prevent further escalation and to bring those responsible to justice.
