Zelensky: US Seeks to Appease Putin Amid Tensions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concern that the United States is attempting to “please” Russian President Vladimir Putin in ongoing discussions about Ukraine.
In an interview broadcast on Monday, Zelensky reacted to recent conciliatory remarks from U.S. officials towards Russia, stating, “The U.S. is now saying things that are very favourable to Putin… because they want to please him.” He suggested that the U.S. aims for a swift meeting and quick resolution, but cautioned that seeking “just a ceasefire” does not equate to a true victory.
These comments come as the U.S. and Russia prepare for peace talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from which Ukraine has been excluded. Zelensky has voiced frustration over this exclusion, emphasizing that any discussions about Ukraine’s future should involve Ukrainian representation.
