Islamic Cleric and Others Held in Student’s Death

An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court in Kwara State has ordered the remand of six individuals, including three self-proclaimed Islamic clerics, a phone repairer, and a farmer, in connection with the alleged murder of Adefalu Hafsat Yetunde, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education.

The accused are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, possession of human parts, and armed robbery. These offenses contravene sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Law, section 2 of the Kwara State Prohibition Law on dealing in human parts (Law 4 of 2018), and section 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, CAP R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the primary suspect, Abdulrahman Bello, allegedly lured the victim through social media, specifically Facebook, and subsequently murdered her for ritualistic purposes. Bello reportedly confessed to the crime, leading to the arrest of his co-accused, who are believed to be part of the same occult group involved in ritual killings.

The court has remanded all suspects to the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, pending further investigation and legal proceedings. The case highlights the growing concern over ritualistic practices and the exploitation of social media platforms to perpetrate such crimes.
