Hospital Procedure: Removing a Worm from a Young Patient
In a rare medical case, doctors at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag, Kashmir, successfully removed a large, snake-like worm from the nostril of a 9-year-old boy. The boy, hailing from Banihal town in the Ramban district, had been experiencing weight loss and a diminished appetite over several days. His parents observed a tail-like structure protruding from his nose on multiple occasions, prompting them to seek medical attention.
Upon examination by ENT resident Dr. Krishanjeet Singh, it was suspected that a sizable worm resided within the boy’s nasal passage. After consulting with the Head of the ENT Department, Dr. Aamir Yousuf, the medical team employed suction to extract the live worm, measuring approximately 9 to 10 centimeters in length. The specimen has been sent to a forensic laboratory to determine its exact nature.
Following the procedure, the boy was discharged and is reportedly in stable condition. The Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag, Professor Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, commended the ENT department for their prompt and effective intervention.
