Evans Seeks Plea Bargain as Convicted Kidnapper

Evans, Convicted Kidnapper, Advocates for Reduced Sentence

Convicted kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, widely known as Evans, has once again sought a plea bargain, citing his remorse and efforts toward personal reform. During a recent hearing at the Lagos State High Court, Evans’ legal counsel, Chief Emefo Etudo, informed Justice Sherifat Sonaike that his client is prepared to forfeit all his properties, including 14 brand-new trucks, to the Lagos State Government. The proceeds from these assets are intended to compensate victims of his criminal activities.

Chief Etudo highlighted Evans’ transformative journey while incarcerated at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. Embracing educational opportunities, Evans has earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and is currently pursuing a degree at the National Open University, with aspirations to attain a Ph.D. His academic achievements have led to his certification as a teacher, and he now contributes by educating fellow inmates.

Despite these developments, Evans faces multiple criminal charges across various Lagos State courts. In two separate cases, he has already been convicted, receiving life imprisonment and a 21-year sentence, respectively. The Lagos State Government has acknowledged receipt of his plea bargain application, which is currently under review.

The court has adjourned proceedings to April 17, 2025, to deliberate on the plea bargain applications submitted by Evans and his co-defendants. As the legal process unfolds, the court will assess the sincerity of Evans’ claims of reformation and the appropriateness of his plea for leniency.
