Safety Measures: NYSC Withdraws Members from Benue Area
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn all corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State following a series of violent attacks by suspected armed herders. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 20 individuals, including 16 farmers whose bodies were discovered in the Katsina Ala River.
Yahuza Adamu, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in Benue, confirmed the withdrawal, citing persistent security threats in the area. He assured parents and guardians of the safety of all corps members, noting that those serving in Jato Aka Turan—a location distant from the affected community—are not exposed to any immediate danger.
Despite the proximity of a Nigerian Army base, the situation in Jato Aka Turan remains tense. Corps members have reported witnessing groups of armed individuals on motorcycles moving through the villages in broad daylight, contributing to heightened fear and insecurity among residents and corps members alike.
