Major Cannabis Bust: N398m Confiscated by Customs

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made significant strides in combating drug smuggling in Lagos. Recently, the Western Marine Command intercepted 53 sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 1,958 kilograms, with an estimated duty-paid value of ₦398 million. This operation took place along the waterways near the Bar Beach Outstation. The seized substances are slated for handover to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

In a related development, the NCS at Murtala Muhammed International Airport apprehended a passenger arriving from Canada in possession of 142 parcels of cannabis, commonly referred to as “Canadian Loud,” valued at approximately ₦290 million. The suspect and the confiscated drugs have been transferred to the NDLEA for comprehensive investigation.

These operations underscore the NCS’s unwavering commitment to curbing the influx of illicit substances into Nigeria, thereby safeguarding public health and security.
