Final Forfeiture of Emefiele's Wealth Ordered by Court

Emefiele’s Mansions and Assets Subject to Court Forfeiture

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of $4.7 million, ₦830 million, and multiple properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele. Justice Yellim Bogoro delivered the judgment on Friday, February 21, 2025, ruling that these assets are to be surrendered to the Federal Government.

In addition to the funds, the court ordered the forfeiture of investments worth $900,000 traced to Emefiele’s close relative, Anita Joy Omoile. Further, $4.4 million in investments linked to Deep Blue Energy Services Ltd and ₦283 million in a Zenith Bank account associated with Liman Investment Ltd were also forfeited. Other assets include €20,000 and £1,999.50 traced to Exactquote Bureau De Change.

Justice Bogoro’s decision came after dismissing an application by an interested party seeking to halt the judgment. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had petitioned for the forfeiture, asserting that the assets were proceeds of unlawful activities.

This ruling is part of ongoing legal proceedings involving Emefiele, who has faced multiple allegations since his suspension as CBN Governor in June 2023. The EFCC has accused him of fraudulent foreign exchange allocations and other financial misconduct.
