Edo Tragedy: Man Dies from Falling Mast

On February 20, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, during a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds. A broadcast mast collapsed, fatally injuring a middle-aged man identified as the driver for the event’s decorator.

The man was attempting to salvage his employer’s materials when the mast fell, resulting in his immediate death. The event was a praise night organized to commemorate Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 days in office. The severe weather conditions led to the mast’s collapse, causing the unfortunate accident.
