Tragic Find: 30 Bodies of Suspected Ritual Victims in Abia
In a distressing development, over 30 unidentified bodies have been discovered in the Imo River within the Oriendu autonomous community of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State. These findings, reported since last year, are suspected to be victims of ritual killings. The traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Philip Ajomiwe, highlighted that the victims, predominantly young women, were often found either completely naked with missing private parts or enclosed in bags. Some decomposing bodies were also located near the NNPC pipeline.
Eze Ajomiwe expressed deep concern over the lack of arrests related to these incidents, noting that the community’s vigilante group faces challenges due to inadequate equipment compared to the suspected perpetrators. He has appealed to the state government for support, emphasizing the need to empower local security outfits with necessary logistics to effectively combat these heinous acts.
The monarch has formally reported the situation to security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), and has recently addressed a letter to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly on February 7, seeking urgent intervention. The community remains on edge, urging prompt action to apprehend those responsible and restore safety to the area.
