Delta Polytechnic Officers Under Scrutiny for Harassment
The Delta State Police Command has initiated an investigation into allegations of harassment involving officers and the Student Union Government (SUG) President of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. The incident came to light after videos surfaced online, showing the SUG President accusing police officers of assault and intimidation.
In one of the videos, the SUG President is heard stating, “You slapped me because I refused to settle you. You will see what you have never seen in your life.”
The term “settle” in Nigerian parlance often refers to the act of giving a bribe or payoff.
The videos, which have been widely circulated on social media platforms, depict the SUG President expressing distress over the alleged misconduct of the officers. An X user, ChuksEricE, shared the video, claiming that the SUG President was approached by police officers who demanded that he “settle” them.
In response to the incident, the Delta State Police Command has stated that it is conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure that any officers found culpable are held accountable. The Command’s spokesperson emphasized their commitment to upholding justice and maintaining public trust.
