Violent Carjacking: Uber Driver Attacked in Lagos

In a recent incident in Lagos State, a suspect has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an Uber driver and stealing his vehicle. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at approximately 7:34 p.m. in the Ile-Zik area of Agege.

According to the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect boarded the driver’s Toyota Camry at Nitel, Old Abeokuta Motor Road, Agege, requesting a ride to Marriott Hotel in GRA, Ikeja. During the journey, upon reaching Ile-Zik, the suspect reportedly produced a sharp knife, inflicted multiple stab wounds on the driver, and fled with the vehicle.

Following the attack, the driver was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Acting on the report, police officers tracked the stolen vehicle to Oshodi, where they intercepted the suspect and recovered the car. The suspect is currently in custody, and an investigation is ongoing.

This incident highlights the growing concerns regarding the safety of e-hailing service drivers in Lagos. Just last week, 42-year-old e-hailing driver Yusfat Ayinde was fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants who subsequently stole his vehicle.

His body was discovered along Agidingbi Road in Ikeja. The Lagos State chapter of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over these attacks and is advocating for enhanced security measures to protect drivers operating in the region.
