Egypt’s Stance Against Palestinian Displacement Proposals
Egypt has firmly rejected recent proposals suggesting the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, emphasizing that such actions would undermine the Palestinian cause and pose significant threats to regional security. In a statement released on February 25, 2025, the Egyptian Presidency declared its opposition to any plans that would “liquidate” the Palestinian issue or compromise the national security of neighboring countries.
This stance comes in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal, which advocates for relocating over 2 million Palestinians from Gaza and transforming the area into an international beach resort under U.S. administration. The plan has ignited widespread condemnation across the Arab world.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has called upon the international community to support a reconstruction plan for Gaza that does not involve displacing its residents. He emphasized the importance of initiating recovery efforts within the territory while preserving the rights and homes of the Palestinian people.
In a show of regional solidarity, Arab leaders convened an emergency summit in Riyadh, attended by representatives from Gulf states, Egypt, and Jordan, to formulate a collective response to the U.S. proposal. The Arab League is scheduled to further deliberate on this issue during a summit hosted by Egypt on March 4, aiming to coordinate efforts to counteract any initiatives that threaten the stability and rights of the Palestinian population.
