El-Rufai and Ribadu: A Conversation on Leadership
National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has refuted allegations made by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who claimed that Ribadu is orchestrating a smear campaign against him due to Ribadu’s alleged 2031 presidential ambitions. In a statement issued on February 25, 2025, Ribadu emphasized that he has never discussed running for president in 2031 with anyone and is fully dedicated to his current role in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Ribadu expressed reluctance to engage in a public dispute with El-Rufai, citing their past association and mutual respect. He stated, “Despite the incessant baiting and attacks, I have never spoken ill of Nasir on record anywhere. I will not start today.” Ribadu urged the public to disregard El-Rufai’s statements and requested that El-Rufai allow him to focus on his national security responsibilities without interference.
These remarks came in response to El-Rufai’s interview on Arise TV, where he accused Ribadu of collaborating with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to tarnish his reputation. El-Rufai alleged that Ribadu’s purported presidential aspirations were motivating these actions.
