Vatsa Family Critiques IBB's Controversial New Book

IBB’s Book: A Disputed Collection of Misleading Information

In his recently released autobiography, A Journey in Service, former Nigerian Head of State General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) addresses the controversial execution of his childhood friend, Major General Mamman Vatsa, who was implicated in an alleged coup plot in 1986.

Babangida asserts that, despite their personal relationship, national security imperatives necessitated Vatsa’s execution. He emphasizes that military personnel are acutely aware of the severe consequences associated with failed coup attempts.

In response, Jonathan Vatsa, a family member of the late General Vatsa, has criticized Babangida’s remarks, asserting that the late general was unjustly killed. He argued that despite Babangida’s claims, the execution lacked substantial evidence and was a grave injustice.

This exchange has reignited discussions about the ethical and legal ramifications of the 1986 executions, with calls for a re-examination of the events and decisions that led to the loss of lives during that period.
