Fenerbahce Accuses Galatasaray of Manipulating Mourinho’s Words
Fenerbahce has announced plans to initiate legal action against Galatasaray following allegations that their head coach, José Mourinho, made racist remarks during a recent match.
The controversy stems from Mourinho’s post-match comments after a 0-0 draw, where he described the behavior of the Galatasaray bench as “jumping like monkeys” in reaction to an early tackle. Galatasaray condemned these remarks, declaring their intention to pursue criminal proceedings and lodge complaints with UEFA and FIFA. In response, Fenerbahce accused Galatasaray of deliberately misinterpreting Mourinho’s words, asserting that his comments were taken out of context and did not carry racist intent.
Fenerbahce’s vice president, Acun Ilicali, emphasized that Mourinho had “no intentions” of being racist and criticized Galatasaray for attempting to manipulate the situation. The club expressed full support for Mourinho and stated they would exercise their legal rights against what they termed “pathetic slander.”
Adding to the discourse, former footballer Didier Drogba, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea, defended his former manager. Drogba questioned the racism allegations, stating, “How can my ‘daddy’ be racist?” He urged fans to focus on supporting their teams rather than being distracted by such claims.
The Turkish Football Federation has referred Mourinho to its Disciplinary Committee for unsportsmanlike conduct and insulting comments made during and after the derby. If found guilty, Mourinho could face a fine and a suspension of up to six months. The situation remains tense as both clubs await further developments.
