New US Sanctions: Iran’s Strong Condemnation
Iran has strongly condemned the recent imposition of U.S. sanctions, labeling them as a “clear sign of hostility.” The U.S. Treasury Department announced these sanctions on February 25, 2025, targeting over 30 entities, individuals, and vessels associated with Iran’s oil supply chain. This move is part of the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign, aiming to halt Iran’s petroleum exports.
In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baqaei, emphasized that these sanctions contradict the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. He stated that determining economic and trade interactions is a fundamental right of nations, and no external party has the authority to interfere or disrupt such relations based on political motives.
The sanctions specifically target oil brokers in the UAE and Hong Kong, tanker operators in China, and the head of Iran’s state-owned oil company. The U.S. aims to reduce Iran’s oil exports to zero, focusing on halting exports to China. Iran has criticized this campaign as coercive and a violation of international law.
