Katsina’s Proactive Approach to Combating Human Trafficking
The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has successfully rescued 13-year-old Rahama Sanusi from a suspected human trafficker. Rahama had been living in Kano State under the care of her late mother’s sister for seven years before being trafficked to Makurdi, Benue State.
Upon receiving a distress call on social media on February 16, 2025, the State Ministry of Women Affairs and NAPTIP promptly initiated a rescue operation, leading to Rahama’s safe return.
During the handover ceremony, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Hadiza Yar’adua, emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with agencies like UNICEF and NAPTIP to combat child trafficking and address the issue of out-of-school children.
She urged parents to take active responsibility for their children’s upbringing, rather than relying heavily on relatives. Rahama’s father, Sanusi Ahmed, expressed gratitude for the swift intervention and called on parents to remain steadfast in caring for their children, regardless of financial challenges.
